Truffles is a good choice for families with small children. They serve continuously from lunch through dinner, so you can miss the dinner rush and eat before 6 PM. The children's menu is right on and they provide crayons and activity placemats for the kids. [Deb].

Our entire family enjoyed Aunt Chilada's ...the food was great, the portions for the money was good, and the service was great. [Pam]. Ed note: if you are a light eater, their happy hour menu might be all you need for dinner.

The Sage Room is top notch. ...converse with owner-chef Matt while he tells you about the food he is cooking...before your eyes. Excellent food and service...good wine list at reasonable prices. [Joe].

Wild Wing Café is one of our favorite spots.  Over 25 flavors of wings and the Jalapeńo Poppers are terrific. Hot Wings, Cold Beers and a good time. [Ellen & Walt].

Crazy Crab at Harbour Town. We have been coming ... for years and we always visit this restaurant at least twice during our .. visit. The wait is long but worth it ... never any complaints ... For basic seafood and.. hushpuppies...you can't beat the Crazy Crab. [Candi]. Ed. note there's another Crazy Crab at the North end, next to the Chamber of Commerce welcome center. Dye's Gullah Fixin's Restaurant get our vote as the best on Hilton Head!
 This is our 4th year vacationing on Hilton Head and we have dined at most of the favorites. This year we tried Dye's
(located at 407 Pineland Station) and found it to have excellent lunch and dinner fixins. We were served by the owner, Dye,
and enjoyed a delicious seafood gumbo, Blue Crab patties with homemade tartar sauce, slaw, and sweet potato fries.
The desserts are also homemade - we tried the peach dump (cobbler) and pecan pie - have never tasted food so rich and
smooth! Dye's also has things that kids like - such as fried chicken and ribs. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and even
has live entertainment. We loved this place so much that our family is going back for dinner. Dye's appears to be the best kept
secret on the island.  If you haven't tried it - we suggest that you do!  It will make your trip to Hilton Head memorable! [Martha}
Ed note: I have heard high compliments from locals as well, all of whom enjoyed the Gullah entertainment.
Shaun and Laura recommend Catch 22 for all-you-can-eat crab legs, Stack's Pancakes for breakfast
 ("food is dynamite...service is very friendly), and Old Oyster Factory.
Alison likes Bella Italia (very, very good), Grumpy Grouper, Captain Woody's and Bonefish ( a bit more expensive).
Lind and Dick like Frankie Bones for dinner, happy hour and early bird specials; the French Bakery for pastries, sandwiches, or quiche; and Carraba's, even though it's a chain restaurant.
Island Bistro was a good choice by Sue, who liked the decor, cleanliness and great wine list. She highly recommends the fried green tomatoes.
Skillets and Steamers in Coligny, the Salty Dog at the South Beach Marina, the Crazy Crab in Harbour Town and the Smokehouse (now on Pope Ave. near Red fish)
are all "must stops" for our family. And you can't leave Coligny without a gelato from Ritas. [Anon}
Stacks - if you eat breakfast, GO HERE!!  DO NOT leave without trying the Creme Brulee French Toast!!  WOW!!!!!  It is out of this world!  {Mike}.
You have to try Harold's Diner on 278. They have the best breakfast. It's a little diner where you watch them cook. {Doug}.
Try Giuseppi's Pizza, the best on the island. All food there is great. {Doug}.

  ENTERTAINMENT

Gregg Russell. My 18 year old daughter still has her "pick ME, please" sign (which Gregg signed) and an autographed Bubble Gum tee shirt from 15 years ago (truly prized possessions). Ed note: see Our Favorites

The show by Shannon Tanner at Shelter Cove was great! [Pam]. Ed note: see Our Favorites.

Biking: if you are biking with children consider renting a tandem bike (sized for an adult up front and a child behind) if your child is between 5 and 8 years old. Younger children can be towed in a kiddy cart behind an adult bicycle. Please keep in mind traffic is heavy and children lack an adults judgment and become absorbed in their fantasies. Child seats can be installed on the back of an adult's bike, but upsets the balance and requires concentration. [Deb]

Schooner Welcome: (We take the sunset cruise and) love the casual atmosphere and peaceful ride...Help raise the sails and take a turn at the wheel if you're so inclined. [Susan and Peter]

Cappy the Clown and Yostie the Puppet Lady are great entertainers for for the young kids. We look forward to them every time we visit. [Michele] Ed note: Cappy can be seen  at Coligny Plaza. Yostie can be seen at Coligny Plaza and she teaches kids puppeteering at the Coastal Discovery Museum.

Family Fiesta Latina (was) a gem! A shame that not many non-Hispanic locals attend. EXCELLENT food, friendly people, great entertainment. Islanders don't know what they've missed. [Sue].

OTHER

We have been using Seashore Vacations (vacation rental company) for over 20 years and have only received the best of service and friendliness from the staff. [Veronica and Joseph]

A lot of people approach risk as if it's the enemy when it's really fortune's accomplice.         Sting
