Parasailing and water skiing
If you want to get a great aerial view of Hilton Head island and its
environs, you can fly high in a parachute towed by a speed boat. They put
you in a harness, standing on a platform at the rear of the boat, and gently
lift you
up
into the air. Part of the
usual ritual involves the tow craft slowing and dropping the passenger in the
water at least knee deep. If you prefer to do without, for example if you
are taking a camera up, just tell the crew. Parasailing is available with
different lengths of cable (heights), typically 500 to 1200 feet, and may be done solo or in tandem with one
other person. There are minimum and maximum weight restrictions, so
children often go up in tandem with a parent. Prices vary according to
height flown and tandem versus single (and sometimes time of the year).
Each rider is up 10 to 15 minutes, but ask about the duration of your flight
when you book. If you expect a tandem flight to be twice as long as a
single, you will be disappointed - on the other hand, the cost for a tandem is
less than that for two singles. Some companies that offer parasailing are
