Hilton Head Island Golf

Golf is a favorite sport on Hilton Head, which offers 15 public access courses on the island and nine more nearby.  This is an  overview of the courses which includes some specifications and price ranges.  Prices for golf are seasonal, and change at different times for the various courses.  Prices are also subject to "specials" offered by the courses, often reflecting discounts for afternoon play or to play multiple courses.  The rules for making tee times vary among the courses as well.

We suggest you discuss your golf requirements with the provider of your accommodations, and request a tee time be made for your first day, at least.  This will give you an opportunity to check out availability at other courses without missing a day of golf.

Most hotels and rental agencies can provide a golf package, including the cost of accommodations and play at discount rates.  Packages can be for a week or less, and can include any number of golfers.  You should make sure the provider of accommodations understands the makeup of your party so suitable accommodations are provided.  For example, if your group is all men, you should make clear you expect a separate bed for each person.

Heron Point is the new name of the Sea Pines Ocean Course following extensive remodeling. It was designed by Pete Dye and it opened September 15, 2007.

 For beginners or those needing a basic practice round, the Executive Golf Club offers 6 par 3 holes and 3 par 4 holes and has rental clubs.  You can walk or ride.  First 9 holes $14.50 to $29.00, second nine $??.  Bluffton.  843-837-6400.

General note: Some clubs are reserved for member play only at certain times. All clubs reserve the right to change prices without notice - confirm when you reserve tee times.

Note ¹: Shipyard and Hilton Head National  each have three 9-hole courses.  Golfers play two (or three) of them.

Note ²: The Daufuskie Island courses are now public. Golfers should know they are accessible only by boat, usually a ferry that runs every two hours or so. A golfing outing here will be an all day affair. Ask about the cost of the ferry.

Some courses offer 9 hole rates.   Some low end rates quoted are for 3 day packages or require a coupon.
